WORLD'S HIGHEST AND ONLY SEVEN-STAR    HOTEL: THE BURJ AL ARAB

The Burj Al Arab - DUbai's most prominent landmark and architectural icon being as the tallest hotel in the world with a 7-star distinction was Al Abbar's greatest achievement during that piloted its continued success. Al Abbar Aluminium was responsible for the whole of the external facade work of this internationally-acclaimed masterpiece which consisted of 50,000m2 of glazed curtain wall of 35,000m2 aluminium cladding

The tower is 321 meters high with a billowing sail to one facade which stretches to the full height of the 180 meters high Atrium.

Curtain Wall System
The curtain wall is a casette system with preglazed panels of glass and aluminium hooked onto an aluminium grid with a vulcanised ladder gasket providing an air seal. The millions span 7 meters between supports and are 235 X 100mm wide.

Exoskeleton Cladding
The massive steel structure was clad with 6mm composite aluminium panels. The design had to accommodate large construction tolerances and a wind load of 9kPa. The exoskeleton is a huge arc but tapers towards the top. It is designed with water drainage system at each horizontal joint.

Helipad
The helipad is 24m in diameter and projects out at the top of the building; a massive spine beam supports it.The unique shape shows Al Abbar's capability of handling the most complex of projects. The cladding is a rainscreen system with 3mm solid aluminium panels hooked onto specially designed aluminium frame.

Observation Lift & Skyview Restaurant
The observation lift is set behind a facetted glass curtain wall and provides direct access to the skyview restaurant. This cantilevered structure (56 meters long supported at the centre only) has a glass wall consisting of 36.7mm glass units point fixed to glass fins and the and the rest of the structure is clad with 6mm aluminium composite panels.

Interior Cladding To Atrium
The steel structure was cladded with 6mm aluminium composite panels with white silicone gaskets to the joints.
