Dubai International Airport

This project involves providing the total exterior building envelope to the new airport terminal totalling 60,000m2, split into approximately 50,000m2 of aluminium composite cladding and 10,000m2 of conventional curtain walling.

The structure is 800m long and has 5 levels. The cladding consists of 4mm composite aluminium panels set on aluminium grid. The primary seal is by a silicone seal and backer rod whilst secondary drainage is provided via a pressure equalised gutter system in the aluminium grid. The curtain wall and skylights are conventional grid systems, set to the curve of the roof. Each cladding panel is insulated with mineral wool encapsulated with a steel back-pan.

There are 27 fixed bridges with no two are alike. They consist of steel frames clad with 3mm solid aluminium panels with insulated back pans, structural glazed IGU's to the vision areas. The complex interface between each section of the bridge was accomplished with the use of specially formed polystyrons templates.
