New Projects at a Glance

New projects welcomed the New Year for Al Abbar. A total of 5 new developments are now under the company’s custody. However the list doesn’t end here, as our Estimation Department has been cooking a number more waiting to be disclosed very soon. The newly awarded projects are the Harvard Medical School Building, the Cube Building in Dubai Sports City, the huge Mirdiff City Center, two towers within the Downtown Burj Dubai development area and the Bay Square complex comprising of 13 low-rise structures in Business Bay. Quite exciting by the sound of it, as these were some of the premiere developments in the UAE today. Not to mention, the current project listing Al Abbar has with developments such as the Burj Dubai-Podium, DIFC Central Park Towers and the Dubai Logistics City complex in the new Al Maktoum Int’l Airport in Jebel Ali which are now taking shape.

Working Just In Time Surprisingly, the advent of the new projects came when the number of Al Abbar’s previous projects has been completed. Projects like the Dubai Airport Int’l Concourse 2, Bahrain World Trade Center, Media One Tower, the World Trade Center Residences, Roshana Tower, Gargash Tower, have been successfully completed at the step of the New Year. With Sharjah Sail Tower and Salam Tecom stepping in its completion phase, project teams working on these projects are now fresh to undertake a new one and some of them have already been designated to these developments. The growing requirements also called for new people who had recently joined the company. The company welcomes its new members who shall provide their expertise and experience to the brand new challenges Al Abbar will about to overcome in these new developments. Good luck.

It will cover over 2.4 million sq-ft and will be located 1km away from Sheikh Zayed Road within Business Bay. Residents, professionals and visitors at Bay Square will enjoy a community similar to creative business hot-spots in major cities around the world. A place where passers-by find inspiration while strolling along the canals and sidewalks, intricately decorated with a wide variety of restaurants, cafes and retail stores.

BUILDING TYPE: MEDICAL SCHOOL BUILDING HEIGHT: 44.815m The Harvard Medical School Dubai Center (HMSDC) Institute for Postgraduate Education and Research has been established to foster the professional development of physicians, nurses, research scientists, and allied health professionals in the Gulf Region. Launched in 2004 through a joint effort by Harvard Medical International (HMI) and Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), HMSDC is part of the Government of Dubai’s mission to develop DHCC into a center of excellence for health care delivery, medical education, and research.

HMSDC provides an unprecedented link between the Gulf Region and the global medical community, and will help to bring the knowledge and expertise of world-class academic medical centers to bear on the area’s most pressing health care challenges. Through a range of educational programs and specialty training, the HMSDC will address the need for professional development in the region and help create a cadre of leaders in academic medicine that will constitute the professional workforce and intellectual resources of DHCC, and ultimately the region.

HMSDC will eventually have its home in a state-of-the-art facility it will include teaching space and case study rooms, an auditorium, and the Maktoum-Harvard Medical Library. When it is finished, this library will be the most advanced collection of clinical and professional development resources in the region, and will include a unique patient and family education center that will provide a close connection between HMSDC and the medical services offered at Dubai Healthcare City.

It has a total of over 500 apartments over 27 floors. All apartments are generously sized and give the superior elements inherent of the entire project. Quality finishes and amenities of German standards run throughout, including the use of marble and bright natural stone in the living and bathrooms areas. The building showcases innovative, state of the art green glass sculpture construction providing spectacular lighting to all internal facades. It also uses the highest quality UV satin glass for sight protection to enable the Dubai sunlight to come safely pouring throughout the building. It has front views of the beautiful urban lake landscape and mall park, with the rear view overlooking the 4 impressive stadiums that will host a 12 month calendar of world class sporting events.

The Cube is designed by the internationally renowned German architect firm, Bothe Richter Teherani. MIRDIFF CITY CENTER LOCATION: TRIPOLI ST. & EMIRATES ROAD, DUBAI, UAE CLIENT: MAJID AL FUTTAIM CONSULTANT: HOLFORD ASSOCIATES MAIN CONTRACTOR: ALEC CONTRACTING CO. BUILDING TYPE: MALL BUILDING HEIGHT: 475m Located on the Emirates Road and Tripoli Street, Mirdiff City Center is a 500,000-square-metre mall offering 183,400 square meters of gross leasable area and 430 retail outlets with eight anchor stores- one of which will be supermarket chain Carrefour, a 14-screen cinema and a food court. It is one of the largest shopping malls being built in Dubai today along with a mall in Dubai Land’s City of Arabia and the expansion of Al Ghurair City in Deira. An estimated AED 2,600 million ($708 million) contract is set for Mirdiff City Centre expected to be completed by the 4th quarter of 2009. Al Abbar will be providing the mall’s roof lights, associated frameworks and glazed screens.
